More about Bay Area Creative (BAC)
Bay Area Creative (BAC) offers a unique approach to addressing three difficult issues facing our Bay Area communities today—the lack of affordable and relevant arts offerings for schools and communities, socio-emotional declines among youth and adults in our communities, and a dearth of employment opportunities for BIPOC artists. BAC addresses these issues by:
-
Enabling schools and other organizations to integrate generationally and culturally relevant arts into their offerings cost-effectively by providing weekly teaching artist visits
-
Providing students and adults with avenues for self-expression that improve communication, confidence, and emotional well-being
-
Creating a steady source of employment for BIPOC artists to work while practicing their craft
BAC programs are delivered predominantly in underserved neighborhoods, empowering individuals to develop empathic communication skills and foster positive change in themselves and their communities.
To lead the programs, BAC recruits, trains, and deploys Teaching Artists from similar backgrounds into schools, community groups, and corporations on a contract basis, providing these organizations cost-effective art offerings and communications programs to their students, clients, and employees while providing local artists with employment. BAC currently serves neighborhoods in the geographic areas of San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley, Pittsburgh, Antioch, Hayward, Daly City, Pacifica, and San Jose. BAC is funded through a combination of revenue from program delivery, grants, and philanthropic donations. Bay Area Creative is a 501(c)(3) founded in 2019.
