DSC03035_edited.jpg

Artist in Your Classroom

A local professional visual artist facilitates weekly culturally responsive painting and mural workshops as a guest teacher in TK-12th grade homeroom and art classes. The SPARC Creativity program provides opportunities for visual storytelling, self-expression, social emotional learning, and foundational art techniques. Curriculum for this residency is customized to reflect the cultural experiences, community environments, and identity development of participants.

Paint the world you want to see!

Themes for art workshops focus on personal interests, neighborhood pride, and cultural heritage. Activities include individual sketching, color mixing, community-based design projects, painting practices, and large-scale mural planning and production. Art workshops progress from basic elements of visual composition to collaborative work that transforms shared space. By the end of the residency students co-create murals that center student voices, highlight cultural symbols, and reflect collective identity through permanent artwork on campus. Due to the volume of materials needed for visual art the types of mediums implemented will shift based on student interest and materials used. Some of these mediums include but are not limited to: acrylics, water (non toxic) based aerosol, pouring, murals, charcoal, painting objects, refrigerator magnets, etc.
